On the 1st September 45 people from Ashill near Uffculme joined the BHNF team for an evening learning about bats. After a talk from local bat expert Hannah Maben about bat species and making homes and gardens bat friendly, three groups set out in the dark with bat detectors to find out which species live in and forage around the village. Species identified included Common pipistrelle, Soprano pipistrelle, A Myotis species, Noctule and Serotine.
Nick Keen from Ashill who helped organise the event said: “It was great to get such a big turnout of people from the village and the event has generated lots of community interested in bats. As a result we are hoping to purchase some bat detectors for loan to villagers and also to put up some bat boxes in key locations”
